Beauty queen criticized for killing 100 species of animals
Mrs. Nebraska 2003, Olivia Nalos Opre has been facing a whirlwind of criticism after her thoughts on hunting and poaching took people by surprise. Olivia was seen on a television show claiming that hunting helps with anti-poaching and conservation efforts. The former beauty queen declared her love for hunting during a U.K. based television show and was proudly telling the hosts how she has killed nearly 100 different species of animals in six continents.

According to her Facebook bio, she has hunted in Benin, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Argentina, Mongolia, France, Spain, Romania, New Zealand, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States. We can only guess how many animals have suffered through the hands of the beauty queen. Another belief of Olivia that threw people off their saddle was “Hunters are the ones that are giving so much back to preserving the wild species”.

“No photographer is going to go to Liberia to take a photograph. But hunters have that desire to see new areas, and as a result of these hunters coming in, they’re creating jobs, they’re helping to drill wells and take animal censuses, and what’s most important is the anti-poaching efforts”, Opre commented. “There are biologists that have been paid for by hunters’ trophy dollars that go in and take censuses,” she added. Various organizations like The Safari Club International invest money for research in hunting areas to make definite that the “numbers are sustainable”.

Many a time, big game hunters like Olivia face fallout and criticism if they share a picture of their trophies, online. Quite a handful of people stood up against hunters when one of Olivia’s friends was seen holding a carcass of a leopard in Namibia. The image went viral and celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Doutzen Kroes, and Kyle Richards expressed their rage and dislike against their so-called hobby.

After being at the end of grave criticism, Opre exclaimed “There’s a huge difference between hunting and poaching, and what hunters are doing is legal. So when you have death threats on somebody who has done something legal, it’s extremely frustrating”.
