Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Sugiono hailed the progress made in border negotiations between Indonesia and Malaysia during a meeting with the Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin here on Wednesday.

Highlighting positive developments in negotiations on maritime and land borders between the two neighbors, Sugiono conveyed Indonesia's commitment to continue talks on border lines that have not yet been resolved.

Furthermore, Minister Sugiono and Ambassador Hussin discussed other bilateral issues, including rapid economic cooperation, ASEAN, and the Palestinian issue.

He expressed optimism regarding the progress of cooperation in the economic sector, as demonstrated by the long-lasting cooperation between state-owned energy company PT Pertamina and Malaysian oil and gas company PETRONAS, as well as bilateral cooperation in the palm oil sector, among others.

In addition, Sugiono conveyed Indonesia's commitment to continue supporting Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN this year.

The two parties also discussed the Palestine issue and agreed to remain fully committed to resolving it through the implementation of a permanent ceasefire and a two-state solution.

Based on data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia is the fourth-largest investor in Indonesia in the Southeast Asian region. The value of its investment was recorded at USD4.1 billion in 2024.

The two nations have enjoyed diplomatic relations for 68 years now. Malaysia remains an important partner and the closest neighbor of Indonesia.

The Indonesian Ministry of Trade recorded USD21.1 billion in bilateral trade value in January–November 2024, with Indonesia registering a surplus of USD800 thousand.

The value of Indonesia's exports to Malaysia stood at USD10.9 billion. Meanwhile, Indonesia's imports from Malaysia were pegged at USD10.1 billion.
