Insurance

Most car rentals will come with their own insurance policy but this will be a basic policy covering mostly collision damage to the car or theft of the car. This will typically not include extras such as the windscreen or tyres being damaged whilst in your possession.

It might be  a good idea to take out standalone cover, pay weekly for insurance and cover your self properly. Paying for the extra insurance with the car hire company will often be very expensive so shop around to find a better deal. This should cover you for any injuries and give your third party cover.

Take a second check

When you pick up your car rental make sure to check the car against your booking documents to make sure you drive away with the correct vehicle. It could also be beneficial to check the car and take any pictures of scrapes or bumps you find to avoid being charged for these on your return.

Ask your car rental company about mileage and fuel, some will ask you to return the car full or empty of fuel.

Pick ups

Most car hires will have pick up and drop off points at the airport or train stations of the city you fly into.

Requirements of renting a car

You will need a valid driving license and passport. For some rentals you will have had to hold your licence for at least 6 months.

In most places the age to rent a car is over 21 however some companies will refuse anyone below 25 and the price will also vary depending on your age, it could be expensive for young drivers.
